Found this. The Inner axle boot is separated from its collar (the boot is broken). There’s oil/grease (not sure cause it’s kinda runny vs a goop like grease usually is. Is this just the boot or is something inside messed up inside hat would cause grease to go everywhere, which is now visible due to a separated boot. Thanks.

I usually replace the entire axle when a boot goes. They are cheap and you would have to take it off to repair the boot anyway.

Replace it. If the grease is runny, it may have overheated , then blown. Either way replacing the dust boot only puts a bandaid on it and cvs are cheap

Must be nice having the option to replace the axle, I’d do that. H ere’s what I deal with when I look to replace an axle, $259.50 if it’s in stock and a $100 core charge because they are all rebuilt at this point. Replace the axle and feel lucky you’ve got the option

Centrifugal force caused grease to go everywhere when age killed the boot. Axles can someone be found for under $100. Sometimes dirt and water get in there and take out the joint after the boots tear. Replacing the axle is the best bet. But we often replace boots and fill with new grease in my shop since Mercedes axles are stupid expensive. But replacing boots is a dirty, messy, hassle that I don't suggest undertaking.

Replace it but I’ve found most rebuilt half-shafts aren’t up to factory standards, if you can swing it go OEM.
Also , don’t be afraid to ask your dealer parts counter to match an internet price if you end up there.

CV b oot replacement is a messy, unpleasant business. But I think it’s worth doing at least once, as it will save a few bucks and give you a better sense of whether or not it’s more of a hassle than you w ant to deal with in the future.

In my experience:
Never buy new if you’re driving Mopar. The new axles are smaller shaft diameter than factory and you will end up breaking the shaft.
You can’t buy OEM anymore.
So buy the cheapest aftermarket reman you can find, when it arrives check both joints and measure the axle diameter to ensure it’s a factory reman, not a new one.
I’ve bought expensive remans only to have them be junk out of the box 8/10 times, the ones that aren’t junk out of the box fail within 5k miles. Meanwhile I’ve had zero issue with cheap remans.
